New Animal Shelter Needed

Posted on 20 October 2008 by Local Edition

Oceana County is in desperate need of a new animal shelter, and they’re hoping a millage on the November ballot will fund the project. The current Oceana County Animal Shelter was built in 1975. The shelter can only accommodate 9 dogs and 7 cats, and due to their low capacity the shelter is almost always full. A millage on the November ballot would provide the shelter with the funding they need to build a new facility. The new shelter would have space for 40 dogs and 24 to 36 cats; animal control officers said that’s enough to accommodate the entire county. If you have any questions about the millage, or would like to learn more about the shelter’s needs, you can call 861-5395, and ask for Terri Troupe.
