Open House and Nature Festival at New Recycling Center

The Missaukee Conservation District is pleased to announce an open house for the newly built recycling center in Lake City. Everyone interested in helping the environment, or just looking to do some spring cleaning, is encouraged to visit the new facility on Saturday, May 2nd.

From 9 AM to 1 PM, visitors bringing their recyclables may also participate in many family-friendly activities planned for the day. The Nature Festival will be taking place right next door to the recycling center at the Missaukee County Offices on W. Sanborn Road.

Some of the events at the Nature Festival will include a hike along the foot trail with s’mores and hot dogs, bagel bird feeder building, a scavenger hunt, recycling education activities, and an eco-friendly gardening workshop. The first 100 visitors will receive a free Red Pine seedling and a small variety of young saplings may also be available for purchase.

While the recycling center is currently unable to accept glass, analog televisions can be exchanged for $12 a piece. The following items can also be donated:

  • Office paper
  • Newspapers
  • Junk mail
  • Magazines
  • #1 plastic (Soda pop bottles)
  • #2 plastic (Water and milk jugs)
  • Tin
  • Aluminum
  • Cell phones (no accessories)
  • Ink jet cartridges
  • CDs and DVDs (no cases)
  • Boat wrap
  • Plastic shopping bags
  • Shrink wrap
